Can You Feel the Spirit?

Can You Feel the Spirit?
Can you feel the spirit
in the air in the hair
people dancing in the street
singing freedom songs sea to sea
what a wonderful world
a time to be alive
to breathe again
stand tall not stunted
men and women
hail to the youth
invincible
challenging the kings
presidents for life
lying in front of tanks
repelling bullets tear gas
all power to the people
let there be freedom in the lands
in the homes
let the women be free of abuse
physical, verbal, emotional
let the men be free to be men
not oppressors of women and children
let the oppressors flee to the moon
or anywhere but here
let there be peace on earth
let the wealth be shared
no hunger in the world
no thirst
no disease
no wage slavery
no ignorance
no conspicuous consumption
no world of make believe
no white supremacy
no dogmatic religiosity
let the people be divine
let the earth be divine
it is time
it is time.

Let the spirit move you
to higher ground
to minds above animal
and yet animals love
who is really the beast
or less than beast
animals love

Let the spirit move you.
Jump out the box of negrocities
wretched habits of the worse kind
that cripple the mind
back to the cave days

Let the spirit shake you
make you shout
talk in tongues
see the spirit working
better listen to that voice
the precious sound of God
talking.
